Space technologies help forest fires

The company’s “Terra Tech” company, the company Holding “Russian Space Systems” (RCS, is included in the state corporation “Roskosmos”) told about the use of advanced space technology for monitoring forest fires on the panel section “New technologies in forest fires”. The event was organized by the board of the military-industrial commission of the Russian Federation under the leadership of the Deputy Chairman of the Oleg Bochkarev College at the XXV International Exhibition of Security Means “Interpolytech-2021”.

Earth’s remote sensing technologies (DZZ) have great potential in tracking fire-hazardous situations, monitoring measures to prevent and eliminate consequences. The combination of modern methods of cosmic monitoring, primarily thermal and optical surveys, allows you to quickly identify foci of fires and follow their development.

Deputy Director of the Department of Navigation Space Systems (GLONASS) Valery Zaichko: “Of course, space technologies – a modern tool for the operational detection of fires and assessing a forest fire situation. However, it is important not only to fix the fact of emergency from space, but to develop comprehensive decision on forecasting and preventing the offensive Emergencies, both natural (drought, fire, flood) and man-made character. A significant role in these promising solutions will be assigned to ZZD and geotechnologies. “
TERRA General Director of those Milan Elendova: “Digital Earth project – an innovative instrument based on artificial intelligence technologies, which has been successfully used in various fields of activity, including for monitoring emergency situations. In April-August 2021, forest fire monitoring in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Irkutsk region was carried out by the terra team. On the territory of these regions, the processing of space shots with a total area of more than 5 million square kilometers was performed. The result was an analytical report with data on covered areas in the affected areas. “

Complex of sectoral information services “Digital Land – Services” Developed by the RCC and its subsidiary of Terra by order by Roskosmos under the Digital Economy Program and is designed to provide customers from state structures and commercial companies with ready-made analytical products and reports based on cosmic survey data . The complex includes 27 monitoring products in seven key areas – emergency situations, agriculture and forestry, ecology, subsoil use, construction and land use. In the geocervis “Digital Land” with the help of artificial intelligence technologies there is a conversion of information from spacecraft to understandable and convenient analytical reports on the status and development of objects, territories and natural resources.
