Covid-19: New Caledonia remains confined on weekends

The curfew is maintained from Monday to Sunday, from 10 pm to 5 am. The archipelago undergoes a virulent first wave, which has already made 245 dead.

The Government of New Caledonia and the State announced, Wednesday, October 20, a continuation of the strict confinement on the weekend until the end of the month, to try to avoid a rebound of the epidemic of Covid -19.

These measures, which involve a certificate for any displacement and the closure of all non-essential businesses, will come into effect on Saturday at 2 pm until Monday at 5 am.

Given the weekend of All Saints, religious cults will be allowed “with a maximum gauge of one seat on two and the obligation to present the sanitary pass”. The curfew is also maintained, as a week, from 10 pm to 5 am.

More than 53% of the population completely Vaccinated

While reached 1,215 cases per 100 00 inhabitants at the height of epidemic outbreak, the incidence rate is now established at 223 cases, but it is still judged “too high” by the authorities. During the weekdays, a suitable confinement, decided until the end of October, is in place and allows the opening of non-essential shops. On the other hand, bars, theaters, casinos, cinemas and discotheques remain closed. Any gathering more than fifteen people is also forbidden.

The baccalaureate tests, the patent of colleges and BTS were canceled and will be replaced by continuous control assessments. In New Caledonia, the school calendar runs from mid-February to mid-December and is stalled over the southern summer.

Due to the epidemic, the FLNKS requested a postponement of the referendum on independence, scheduled for 12 December. Faced with the government’s refusal, they called voters not to go to the ballot box.
