Researchers from Norway and Sweden have shown that the risk of asthma in children, the work of mothers of which was associated with the wide use of cleaning and disinfectants, was significantly higher. Dedicated to a new asthma risk factor The article of scientists is published in Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
The researchers led by specialists from Bergen University analyzed the data of 3318 pairs of “Mother-Child” participating in the Longitudinal (long-term) studies of Asthma Rhine (Mother) and Rhinesa (children). Growing children provided scientists with information about when and how asthma developed. Mothers researchers asked to tell about all their previous works. In the number of professions related to the wide use of chemicals included work cleaners, cooks, nurses and other medical workers.
Data Analysis revealed that if the mother was arranged for a similar job long before the child’s birth, the risk of development in the last asthma grew by 71 percent. The conception and pregnancy during employment at such work increased the risk of asthma by 125 percent. If the mother began to work after delivery, the risk of asthma was not observed. These data indicate that cleaning and disinfectants cause change in mothers to be transmitted to children, researchers mark. Possible mechanisms for such a transfer still have to be learned.
