Microsoft said that each update for Windows will have its own shelf life. This is reported on the company’s website.
According to the head of the Communication Program and Windows Service Group Christine Akhonen, Microsoft will change the practice of distribution of updates of the system. Thus, the topical OS will receive two or three small security updates every month. In this case, if the user misses the update, it will not be able to establish it after a certain time.
This measure is caused by the consumer who missed the update series did not have to download all the accumulated updates to his PC. The user will need to download only the most recent version that contains all the necessary changes. It should facilitate the experience of user interaction and system administrators.
At the same time, the old OS, which are no longer relevant, will continue to receive all security updates. However, updates for them will be less common – about once a month. Such operating systems include Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Servers 2008 SP2, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012.
In late September, Microsoft said that Windows updates will have a diminished size. Thanks to the optimization in the company managed to reduce the amount of updates by about 40 percent.
