US Air Force will define an experimental nuclear reactor in Alaska

US Air Force (Air Force) planned to post by 2027 on the Base of Eilson located on Alaska, the experimental nuclear reactor, reports The Drive.

In the future, the installation, which will appear 42 kilometers from Fairbenx and 177 kilometers from the Northern Polar Circle, should replace the coal power plant, the operation of which is associated with environmental, logistics and financial difficulties. In the future, such reactors are supposed to be used to provide energy sustainability in hard-to-reach regions.

The publication reminds that the Eilson is contained, in particular, F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters and F-35 Lightning II.

In August 2019, the Edition of Space.com, referring to the head of the Kilopower project in the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico Patrick Mc, reported that the American eponymed compact nuclear reactor, intended for lunar and Martian manned missions, may Be ready for flight trials already in 2022.
