British servicemen who served in Iraq from 2003 to 2009, avoided punishment for a number of crimes against humanity. The soldiers were accused of mass torture, beatings and abductions, but the investigators of Great Britain closed all criminal cases and did not attract a single serviceman to justice. It is reported by Middle East Monitor.
None of 1291 cases ended with prosecution or prison terms. United Kingdom Defense Minister Ben Wallace said that some charges were fair, but most of them did not find evidence.
Citizens of Iraq and international human rights defenders accuse British soldiers in arbitrary detentions of “suspicious persons” – as a rule, simple civilians of Iraq – and the use of physical and moral torture to them.
The total number of human rights violations, according to applicants, exceeded 1300, in 280 cases they led to the death of victims.
