The desire to save the planet from the consequences of global warming will be wrapped in the rise in prices for food. One of the reasons for increasing the cost of products can be the transition of aviation to “green” fuel, said CEO of Ryanair Michael O’Lery, reports CNBC.
O’Lery recognized the need to introduce environmentally friendly aviation fuel (Sustainable Aviation Fuel, or SAF) renewable sources, such as vegetable oil waste and animal fat. “I really worry that it will affect the prices of food prices in the future,” he stated.
Currently, aircraft accounts for about 12 percent of world harmful emissions. The industry has committed to 2050 halved to reduce carbon emissions relative to the 2005 level. SAF – special low carbon aviation fuel. It happens two types: synthetic, produced from carbon captured in the atmosphere, and biological, produced from biomass (animal fat, vegetable and treated oils, as well as waste of certain industries). The development of green aviation fuel is preparing to take up in Russia: an agreement concluded “Gazprom Neft” and “Aeroflot”.
In general, the struggle of mankind for the environment and ecology will lead to an inevitable increase in prices on all products worldwide. States are forced to introduce additional restrictions to stimulate production to environmental transformation that will require additional costs and will lead to the so-called “green inflation”. According to analysts, it will not last forever, but the trend on the decline will demonstrate only when electricity from renewable energy sources will be in excess and starts falling in price.
