In Russian Foreign Ministry explained meaning of contacts of special services with Taliban

Russian special services are in contact with the “Taliban” movement (prohibited in Russia) to ensure the safety of Russians in Afghanistan. The meaning of such contacts was explained by the Special Representative of the President of Russia in Afghanistan, head of the second Department of Asia Foreign Minister Zamir Kabulov. His words sounded on the online conference, reports TASS.

“Such contacts are, and they are absolutely justified and necessary. This concerns the security of our embassy, ​​our citizens who live in Afghanistan,” a diplomat spoke on the issue of dialogue with the Taliban. He noted that a small number of Russians remained in the Afghan territory. According to him, if they want to leave Afghanistan, Russia will provide them with such an opportunity.

August 26 Ambassador of Russia in Kabul Dmitry Zhirnov said that in Afghanistan there were about a hundred Russians. The diplomat noted that they “did not voiced their collective desire to leave.” He also confirmed that Russia was evacuated with the help of specialists from the Afghan territory of its citizens from the age of the Taliban to power.
