Russian hackers are again to the maneuver. The Nobelium Group, at the origin of a vast computer attack in the United States last year, conducts a new offensive against American and European organizations, warned Microsoft’s computer giant.
“Nobelium tries to replicate the strategy used during past attacks by aiming for organizations that are an integral part of the global computer supply chain,” said Sunday, October 24 in a blog post, Tom Burt Microsoft Vice President of Customer Security. Mr. Burt specifies that these new attacks were detected from May.
Since, Microsoft has warned more than 140 “resellers” (companies offering personalization services for the use of remote computing, or “cloud”) and technology server providers having been targeted. Nobelium has made itself known to the general public in 2020 for the massive piracy of the SOLARWINDS IT Management Software Editor. The group led extensive operation affecting at least eight US administrations.
Recrudescence of attacks
Microsoft and the US authorities accuse the Russian government to support these hackers, which Moscow is formally denying. US President Joe Biden, had imposed financial penalties to Russia and expelled Russian diplomats following the piracy of Solarwinds.
