European Union (EU) plans to resume the work of diplomatic missions in Afghanistan over the next month. This became known to the Financial Times newspaper, the publication leads RIA Novosti.
It is noted that the newly opening office in Kabul will be employees of the European External Relations Service, and the diplomats of EU member countries will be able to use it.
According to the newspaper, Last month, Brussels sent a mission to Afghanistan to explore the possibility of returning its representatives. During the month, the European Union tried to negotiate with Kabul so that the representative office was protected by private services or guards from the member countries. However, according to the source, the EU recognized the lack of an alternative to the demand of the new authorities, according to which foreign representative offices should be protected by the forces of the “Taliban” who came to power (the organization is prohibited in Russia).
The press service of the European Commission Financial Times confirmed that the EU “works on the establishment of a minimum presence” in Afghanistan, but the final decision is not accepted. The EU also studies the “available options” to ensure the security of employees.
The European Commission stressed that the renewal of the Office does not mean the recognition of the “Taliban” authority, but aims to help the people of Afghanistan. At the same time, there he concluded that the Taliban will have to interact in any case.
