Israel has brought an unprecedented blow to Palestinian civil society and its international backers, Friday, October 22, classifying six human rights organizations storefront among the “terrorist organizations”. The order was signed by the defense minister, Benny Gantz, which was illustrated in August, becoming the first member of the Israeli government for a short decade to meet the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, in Ramallah. Since then, Israel has repeatedly stated that he intended to strengthen the Palestinian Authority and the occupied territories, including through economic measures, though excluding any political negotiations with the Palestinians.

Now the six NGOs are highly political role in counterbalancing a Palestinian Authority run its course. This is Al-Haq, active in denouncing the occupation of the territories by the army in place since 1967, and violence perpetrated by Israeli settlers; Addameer, which defends prisoners in Israel; the powerful Union of Agricultural Work Committees; the center of research and development Bisan; Defense for Children Palestine; and the Union of Palestinian Women Committees. Israel argues that these organizations are linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), moving from Arab nationalism and Marxism, a pioneer of the Palestinian resistance, which was once the most active faction after Fatah. He remains listed as a terrorist organization by Israel and the European Union. Historically, many civil society movements have developed in connection with the factions, who then enjoyed a network within the population.

Israel says these groups today employ members of the PFLP and redistribute it funds. In May, the Israeli domestic intelligence had accused NGOs in the West Bank of embezzling funds from several European countries – including Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Spain and Great Britain – to the benefit of the PFLP. Israel has, however, felt obliged to prove, fell Friday Israeli lawyer Michael Sfard. On the same line as the organization Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, it denounces “a declaration of war against the whole community of [defenders] human rights”.
