In Kazakhstan, they declared the positive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the number of children’s suicides. The President of the Institute of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities of Kazakhstan Margarita OsochoBeva states that the number of suicides among children decreased in 2020 due to the fact that they are at home longer, says Sputnik.
Oscalbaeva monitors children’s suicides since 2008. The total trend here is disappointing: the number of incidents in general is growing. However, according to her, in 2020, the number of suicides was lower than before.
A psychologist connects a positive change with the fact that due to a pandemic, children began to be in a family longer and spend time with their parents. “The child is with his parents, and its condition stabilizes. Strong and deep relationships with their parents are built up, and this is the most important thing for the child,” says OsochoBeva.
At the same time, communication with peers was limited due to distance learning, notes a psychologist. But the decrease in the communication of children with each other did not have a negative impact on the number of suicides.
Earlier in Russia explained the nature of suicide among adolescents. Director of the Institute of Integrative Child Psychotherapy and Practical Psychology “Genesis” Albina Lokokionov said that so minor citizens are trying to express their individuality, seeking approval and support among the general public.
