According to the study, 87 percent of the inhabitants who decided to leave the city in October 2021, went to the nearest areas and small settlements within their region, and only 13 percent went to other subjects. During the non-working days of 2020, a larger number of people left for long distances – about 20 percent of the total number of those who did not want to stay at home.
MegaFon analysts recorded the largest outflow of urban residents in Moscow. By October 30, 14 percent of Muscovites left the city – this is 57 percent more than in the average Saturday of October. Lyuberetsky, Krasnogorsky, Odintsovo and Podolsky districts.

People also began to move less inside the capital: if on the usual days of October, a Moscow resident overloid 11 km per day, then in the second half of last week, this figure decreased by 22 percent – up to 8.5 kilometers per day. Muscovites who still decided to leave to other regions of the country, more often than the other cities chose St. Petersburg, Sochi and Nizhny Novgorod.
The greatest migration of the population in the regions was marked in Kaliningrad – the city left 5.7 percent of the inhabitants. This is followed by St. Petersburg (5.5 percent), Saratov (3.8 percent) and Nizhny Novgorod (3.6 percent).
From October 28 to October 30, the consumption of mobile Internet traffic has significantly increased: MegaFon subscribers spent on a third (36 percent) more traffic during the autumn period of non-working days of 2021 than in the spring 2020. According to analysts “MegaFon”, this trend is associated with the digitalization of business processes – if necessary, subscribers can work, even being in the country or at any other point of Russia.
