Ethiopia: Introduced State Of Emergency

The Council of Ministers of Ethiopia introduced a state of emergency (emergency) in the country against the background of the opposition of rebels from the “Popular Liberation Front” (NFHOT) with government forces. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

Press attache of the Russian Embassy in the country Maria Chernukhina told the Agency that diplomats would take measures to strengthen the physical security of the diploma due to the exacerbation of the conflict. According to her, the department will especially control the compliance with all requirements related to the introduction of the emergency regime. It is noted that at the moment there are about 200 Russian citizens at the Embassy in Ethiopia.

previously became known that the rebels from the NFHOT killed more than one hundred young residents of the captured city of Kombolcha in the north of Ethiopia. The press service of the government confirmed this information. The authorities of the country called on the international community not to close the eyes on such atrocities.

Since November 2020, the conflict between Tyga and the Central Government continues in the north of Ethiopia. The war has already taken the lives of more than ten thousand people. The cause of the conflict was the contradiction between the federal center and the provincial authorities regarding the delimitation of power and recognition of local elections.

During the confrontation, the rebels moved to the territory of the neighboring states and were able to cut a number of transport highways and take control of several key cities in two regions adjacent to Tyga. However, by the autumn of the 2021, government troops with the support of the militia of Amhara and special forces of Afar began counteroffensive and returned control over most of the cities.
