A number of countries are engaged in working out the issue of arming in outer space for battling. This was stated by the Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia when separating the UN in Geneva Andrei Belousov, RIA Novosti reports.
Indicating the threat of fights in space and its transformation into the arena of armed confrontation, representing the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) noted that the increase in the potential of force influence on space objects and life support infrastructure on Earth can lead humanity to the catastrophe.
Belousov drew attention to the importance of preventing the arms race in the outer space and the conservation of space for peaceful purposes. “The priority of its decision is enshrined in the final document of the first special session of the UN General Assembly on Disarmament of 1978,” said Zepostopred.
Previously, the threat of conversion of space in the arena of conflicts was warned by the head of the Department of Nonproliferation and Arms Control of Arms Foreign Affairs Vladimir Yermakov in his report for the meeting of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly on Arms Control. According to him, a number of UN member countries took a course on placing weapons in space for “in order to achieve their own military superiority.”
