Sechin warned about risks of accelerated energy transition

The energy transition should not be due to exclusively faithful activists in the limitless possibilities of renewable energy. This was stated by the head of Rosneft Igor Sechin, speaking with a key report on the 14 Eurasian Economic Forum in Verona. Sechin urged to think about what problems we are trying to solve an accelerated energy transition, and whether low-carbon solutions are really helped to provide energy to future generations.

Faith activists of the accelerated energy transition is not yet supported by reliable technologies, the head of Rosneft is convinced. The process of the energy transition requires a huge amount of research, the search for new, less toxic and energy-intensive materials that will be used to produce and storing energy, and which can be replaced by existing, not the most suitable materials.

“The energy transition should be based not on the requirements of climatic activists, but on real economic laws, ensure income on investment and long-term increase in value while satisfying the demand for energy resources and reduce emissions,” said Igor Sechin.

Rosneft head added that the gas crisis only once again clearly demonstrated the complexity and fragility of the energy and economy device, as well as the fact that new technologies are not yet sufficiently developed to ensure that they can be safely relying.

“So I once again want to emphasize that the process of energy transition should be weighted, economically due and socially responsible, – said Sechin. – The energy transition should not be an end in itself, its primary task should be the reliability of energy supply.”

Among other things, developed countries that have already built their well-being based on the use of low-cost energy of fossil fuels, now actually do not allow developing countries to grow from an economic point of view, forcing them to switch to expensive alternative generation. According to Sechina, it only aggravates social inequality, so the transition to renewable energy sources should be carried out so as not to slow down the economies of developing countries.

“will be unfair if the largest consumers of consumers of energy and metals will continue to put pressure on developing countries with gigantic natural potential,” the head of Rosneft was summarized.
