Chairman of the CEC of Uzbekistan Cheaniddine Nizamkhodzhaev announced the victory of the current president of Uzbekistan of the Mirzieev Shavkat in the elections of the head of state, RIA Novosti reports.
“Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan decided to consider Mirzieeva Shavkat Miromonovich to the post of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. After counting all the newsletters, he scored 80.12 percent of the votes,” said Nizamhodzhaev.
Presidential elections in Uzbekistan took place on Sunday, October 24. The turnout exceeded 80 percent. Mirzieev has already been congratulated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko and the head of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev.
Shavkat Mirzieev became president in 2016 after the death of Islam Karimov, the first leader of independent Uzbekistan. At Karimov Mirzieev was the prime minister.
