Moldova declared price of agreements with Russia for gas

Moldova Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa in an interview with Financial Times called the price of the country’s agreements with Gazprom on the extension of Russian gas supplies.

According to Gavrilitsa, in case of unaccepting agreements with Russia in the near future, Chisinau will have to spend 800 million euros for the purchase of gas from other suppliers for five months of the heating season.

“In these four or five months, the EU should clearly understand what supports Moldova … Moldova needs very small volumes … We hope that we can count on prolonged support,” celebrated Gavrilitsa.

She also thanked the EU Guidelines for the loan of 60 million euros provided to Moldova to overcome the energy crisis. According to her, the means will allow negotiations with Gazprom, “without fear of time.”

She also stated that Chisinau is not going to make a choice between cheap gas and close relations with the European Union. According to Gavrilitsa, she would “prefer not to be in such a position.”

At the end of October, the Moldova authorities introduced a state of emergency due to gas deficiency after the expiration of a long-term contract with Gazprom. The parties began negotiations on the extension of the agreement, but until they came to the result.
