Researchers from Australia and Great Britain showed that for white sharks of people silhouettes are almost indistinguishable from lastonous. Thus, the attacks of fish per person are connected with the fact that they confuse the first and second. The article of scientists is published in Journal of the Royal Society Interface.
White sharks along with stupid and tigers are responsible for the overwhelming number of attacks on people. Researchers from the universities of Flinders and McKori together with colleagues from the University of Bristol decided to recreate how young white sharks are more dangerous for people because of the worst compared with the older visual conversions – see extraneous objects. “We attached the [Camera] Gopro to the underwater scathera and configured it to the usual shark cruise speed for the predatory sharks,” says the lead author of research from the University of McKori Laura Ryan.
In the Oceanarium of the Sydney Taron Zoo, researchers alternately – static and with the help of cameras on scooters – removed from the water, as rectangular platforms, ordinary people, surfers, as well as eared seals (two Australian sea lions and New Zealand sea cat). After that, based on accessible information about the neurobiology sharks, scientists put on video filters. With the help of specially designed simulation programs, they managed to reproduce how young white sharks see certain objects.
“We found that surfers, swimmers and a lastonous on the surface of the ocean look like a white shark-looking at the bottom – she cannot see small details or colors,” said Ryan. At the same time, the small boards for surfing the sharks were heavier. Surfers with such boards can be in a special danger: young sharks prefer to hunt for young seals.
