Former candidate for the presidency of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya expressed hope for the constructive role of Russia in resolving the conflict in the republic. She stated this in an interview with “Echo Moscow”.
“We would like the Kremlin to play his constructive role in resolving the conflict in Belarus. We want to continue relations with Russia. We will not go anywhere from you, like you are from us,” Tikhanovskaya appealed to Moscow.
The opposition is sure that Alexander Lukashenko “will no longer be a legitimate president for Belarusians, and it is extremely unprofitable to have such a partner for Russia,” since he is “absolutely opaque.” “To preserve normal relations with Belarus, you need to take the will of the Belarusian people,” she concluded.
Previously, Tikhanovskaya stated that she was afraid to come to Russia, since it was written there.
The election of the President of Belarus took place on August 9, 2020. The CEC announced that Lukashenko, ran for the sixth period, received 80 percent of the votes, and the wife of the arrested opposition blogger Tikhanovskaya – 10 percent. Mass protests continued throughout the country for several months. A number of opposition politicians and activists were arrested or fled abroad. Tikhanovskaya at the moment is in Lithuania.
