The Minister of Infrastructure of Slovenia Yernie Vrtsovets, who presided over the meeting of the EU Council, found a way out of the European Energy Crisis. The politician said that the block countries should use nuclear power to ensure non-volatility. Alternative sources, according to the minister, will not be enough, reports TASS.
Vrtesovets noted that to achieve the goals for zero carbon emissions by 2050, more public and private investments in the development of renewable energy sources are necessary. “But, unfortunately, renewable sources will not be enough, we need to use atomic technologies,” the minister added.
In October, European Commissioner for Energy Cadri Simson has already declared that Europe needs to be less dependent on import imports and more actively use other sources of energy. For this, Simson offered to invest more funds in the development of green energy. EvroComissar also promised by the end of 2021 to provide a new list of rules that will motivate the block countries faster to switch to renewable energy sources.
The German government, nevertheless, in its program, noted that the exercise of a green transition takes time. The coalition of the three parties announced the need to build gas power plants to meet demand until uninterrupted power supply from renewable sources.
Europe faced the energy crisis due to increased consumption and increased gas prices. The high cost of gas prompted the government and companies to resort to other sources of fuel, which resulted in price increases and the remaining energy. Now gas is traded at $ 1079 per thousand cubic meters, according to the London Exchange ICE.
