EU threaten Belarus with new sanctions due to illegal migrants

German Foreign Minister Haiko Maas said that the European Union (EU) continues to discuss the migration crisis in the Belarusian border, and threatened the introduction of the “very sensitive” sanctions against the regime of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. This reports Reuters.

According to the head of the FGG Foreign Ministry, the European Union will not put up with the attempts of Lukashenko to put pressure on European states. “Therefore, on the table there are proposals to introduce new sanctions against Belarus, and very sensitive,” the diplomat indicated.

Maas stressed that the EU will continue to fight the airlines that are involved in the transportation of refugees to the borders of European countries. According to the Agency, the EU considers the imposition of sanctions against travel companies, as well as the imposition of full sanctions to the National Belarusian airline “Belavia”. Also in the European Union prepare a new package of sanctions against Belarusian citizens, which may include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, accused of participating in the campaign to promote illegal migration in the EU.

Earlier, Haiko Maas called Lukashenko “head of the state network of carriers of illegal migrants.” He stressed that it was Lukashenko who manages the transportation of refugees to the borders of European states.

The migration crisis at the borders of Belarus and the European Union began at the end of May. Large groups of illegal migrants from Africa and the Middle East began to storm the borders of Lithuania, Poland and Latvia in the hope of getting refuge in the European Union. It is assumed that the Belarusian authorities use their national tour operator “Centerkurort” to cross the migrants to the EU borders and earn it.
