“Succession”, Season 3, Episode 1: prodigal son race in Manhattan

Every week, “Le Monde” takes stock of the tribulations of the Roy family and its media empire, to follow on Mondays on OCs Prime.

As if, just after moving an anthill of a kick, the gel had frozen the occupants and lasted two years. We return to the scene at the time of the Redoux and just a few minutes to persuade that this nest of venerable creatures – a clan of billionaires undermined by the great age of his founder and the rivalries he arouses – has lost nothing of his hypnotic power.

The time of the third season of succession (nine episodes), we will follow each week the big maneuvers and the small combines of the Roy family. It had been left out with the Revolt of Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong). Logan Roy (Brian Cox), the patriarch, had responded to his son, the elder of the siblings from his second marriage, the order to sacrifice himself for the good of the clan, taking into account the accusations of homicide and sexual assault committed as part of the Cruise activity of the Waystar Royco, the family trust. Except that, at the very end of the last episode of the previous season, Kendall preferred to use the documents in his possession to denounce his father and associates in front of the press, originally convened to attend the sacrifice of the scapegoat.

Irsevitable reprisals

After a two-year hiatus caused by a pandemic we will not see (to justify this bias, the designer of succession, Jesse Armstrong, explained that extreme wealth allows, among other things, to live as if the Virus did not exist), so the protagonists are therefore exactly where they had been left: Kendall in New York, intoxicated by his audacity, ready to complete his parricide gesture, terrified at the idea of the inevitable reprisals; Somewhere in the Mediterranean, the rest of the clan seeks the response. Never the expression “no longer know where we live” was so just.

The dissenting (in a pretty alliteration, this episode is entitled secession) realizes that it can no longer access its office of Waystar’s head office. After wandering in the streets of Manhattan aboard his suv with the smoked windows (and ejected by the latter a collaborator he suspects of disloyalty), Kendall arrives, with cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun), at his ex- Rava Wife (Natalie Gold), where he undertakes to install a campaign headquarters. It must be admitted that this solution of decline, regressive and abject (at the worst father and husband contest, the rebel makes a severe competition at its own generator), augur badly of the success of its ambitions.
