Ex-president of Afghanistan stated condition for international recognition of Taliban

To get international recognition, the Taliban government (the Taliban movement, prohibited in Russia) needs to earn legitimacy within Afghanistan. Such conditions called the ex-president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai in an interview with Voice of America (the Russian-speaking edition was announced in Russia to the Ministry of Internal Affairs).

To gain support from the Afghan people, according to Karzai, the Taliban, among other things, must approve the Constitution and collect the Allian Council of Elders (Loya Djirgi).

In addition, the former Afghan leader appealed to Pakistan with a call to stop interfere in the internal affairs of Afghanistan. “My message to Pakistan, our fraternal country, is that she should not be attempted to represent Afghanistan,” Karzai said.

He also expressed the hope that neighboring states with Afghanistan will help the country in the fight against the terrorist “Islamic state” (IG, prohibited in the Russian Federation). Karzai admitted that the IG represents “a threat to Afghanistan, for the life and well-being of the Afghan people.”

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, arguing about the official recognition of the Taliban, stated that it was impossible to rush to this. At the same time, he noted the need to communicate with the new government of Afghanistan. According to the Russian leader, the issue of the exception of Taliban from the list of terrorist organizations will be discussed including the heads of the CIS countries.
