Deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Russia Sergey Ryabkov in a conversation with RIA Novosti shared impressions from a conversation with US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland.
As Ryabkov told, a conversation with a diplomat from the United States turned out to be “extremely frank”. In particular, the parties discussed the situation with consular work and visas, with the presence of Russian dipperson in the United States and American in Russia, which, according to him, does not improve. He noted that the positions of both parties are badly joined.
Ryabkov noted that “Americans do not listen to our logic, to our requirements.” At the same time, the conversation was “useful”, added deputy minister.
According to him, in the relations of the two countries there is a “potential for exacerbation” if they do not make efforts for normalization. Ryabkov added that Moscow does not exclude the freezing of the work of dipms of Russia and the United States, but would like to avoid such a scenario.
In turn, Nuland said that he was glad to be again in Russia, engaged in bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington.
US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland flew to Moscow on October 11th. On October 12, she met with the Deputy Foreign Ministry of Russia Sergey Ryabkov, diplomats discussed issues of strategic stability and prospects for continuing work in this area.
Following the meeting, the deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that Moscow recalled the unacceptability of the US military presence in Central Asian countries. He also pointed out that during the negotiations with Nuland, Russia’s concern was expressed in connection with the new Aukus Alliance (Australia, United Kingdom, USA) in the context of non-proliferation regimes of nuclear weapons.
