US lost largest supplier of cartridges due to sanctions against Russia

Russian manufacturers of cartridges for civil arms can significantly reduce their presence on the largest export market – American. It is reported by RBC.

The reason for this was the additional sanctions introduced on September 7, Washington in relation to Moscow. Among other things, they turned out to be an item limiting “permanent imports” in the United States of small arms and ammunition to it from Russia. Now companies wishing to acquire products of Russian enterprises, alcohol, tobacco bureau, firearms and explosives (ATF) will issue a mandatory refusal.

According to some estimates, Russia is the main supplier of cartridges in the United States. The annual deliveries of Russian manufacturers in the country exceed $ 100 million, which is more than 21 percent of the aggregate import of weapons cartridges. The nearest pursuer – South Korea, has a smaller figure. In 2020, United States importers were taken from Russia more than 765 million rounds.

July 30 reported that the import of Russian oil and petroleum products in the United States sharply increased over five months of the current year against the background of rising prices. “The imports of fertilizers in the United States increased by 35 percent, up to 0.5 billion dollars, and the importation of iron and steel from Russia rose to a quarter to 0.7 billion dollars. In general, the import of Russian goods in the United States in five months of 2021 increased in one and a half years. In addition, the period of the annual limitation, reaching almost $ 11.5 billion, “is followed from the statistical data of the US census bureau. For other commodity goods, procurement also increased significantly, despite the current sanctions. It is about importing mineral fuel, precious and semi-precious metals and stones.

In June, the head of the state corporation “Rostech” Sergey Chezovov explained the meaning of the US sanctions on the defense exports introduced in March of this year. He explained that the restrictions were aimed at dual-use products, which the US State Department considers “military services.” In particular, the situation affects the civilian aircraft MS-21. “They forbidden the import of composite materials for the wing. Although it is absurd, it is clear. I think it is a breathtaking position as a whole,” he said. In his opinion, in addition to the deterrence of Russian defense technologies, the purpose of American sanctions is to prevent Russia’s development in general and civil aviation in particular.
