The new Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kisida made a statement that the sovereignty of Tokyo spreads to the islands of the southern part of Kuril. His words reports TASS.
Politician also called on to solve this issue, without leaving it the next generations. “The government is configured to enter into a peace treaty with Russia, resolving the problem of the belonging to these islands,” he said. Kisida noted that it was configured to persistent negotiations with Moscow on this issue with a support for all previous agreements.
Moscow and Tokyo cannot sign a peace treaty on the results of the Second World War due to the territorial dispute around the southern part of Kuril. Japan considers the Islands of ITUURUP, Kunashir, Shikotan and a group of Habmioma Islands with its “northern territories”. Moscow does not recognize the very fact of the territorial dispute.
