Tribune. We have nothing to say more intelligent than others on the scandalous pedocinality that have manifestly been guilty of thousands of priests and religious as well as laity on mission for the Church. As simple parishioners, however, we have to take the political measure of the crisis that opens, to admit it as an obligation of conversion, not only individuals, but also structures. And we have to talk about it, even if we are no one, because it is also the silence breaks.
Nevertheless, the reflection on these crimes should not leave a passion for the comment. It must take root in the very word of the victims and rapporteurs of the Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church (CIASE) led by Jean-Marc Sauvé. The victims speak, tell us, to us Catholic. We have to listen at first, to unfold the direction next. For example, these words of François Devaux, founder of the association released, at the press conference of 5 October: “The system is deviant, there is a lack of equilibrium and reliable safeguards” and “you are A shame for our humanity, you have trampled by your behavior the obligation of natural divine law, the protection of the life and dignity of the person, while it is the very essence of your institution “.
In both cases, what is in question is the notion of institution, the “essence of [n] with institution”. We can not dodge it by individual repentance postures if they suggest that it is only ancient stories and if they hide the structures of sins. Indeed, “we are not facing a problem of the past”, insists Jean-Marc saved, stressing that there remains residual cases of pedocimate that do not fall since the 1990s.
The Church, a structure of sin?
So we can not dodge this radical question: the Catholic Church, because it is an institution, is it a structure of sin? In other words, does it produce evil, that is to say suffering, because of its institutional organization?
The question asked us for the future is to know the meaning that there is to lead a Christian existence in connection with an institution. It is the very idea of Christian institution that is in crisis, through the way it has been able to behave by seeking to defend oneself in disregard of justice. Not only should the truly Christian institution put justice over its own safeguarding, but it should also put the victim beyond its necessities of existence, which the meaning is to announce that it is by A victim – Jesus crucified – and not by heroes, should they virile knights, that the world is saved.
