In China, they consider the US attempts to prevent gas supplies from Russia to Europe, as well as the desire to monopolize the European Union’s energy market (EU). This was reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Zhao Liacyman, reports TASS.
Diplomat called the launch of the Russian project “Northern Stream-2” mutually beneficial for the EU. In his opinion, gas supply through the pipeline will “resolve a complex energy situation in the European Union.”
Lijian indicated that the United States is trying to use “all possible ways” to prevent project implementation, acting against the interests of Russia and the EU. “The United States is guided exclusively for their own interests and are trying to politicize all relevant issues,” the Foreign Minister said.
The diplomat accused Washington in pursuing his own geopolitical interests and noted that for the sake of them, “the United States can attack even on its allies and partners.”
Previously Assistant President of the US President Jake Sullivan called on Russia to increase gas supplies to Europe. At the same time, he stressed that the Russian government make an error if the gas is used as political weapons. “I believe that Russia should answer the needs of the market in increasing gas supplies to Europe,” he concluded.
Voltage between Washington and Beijing in recent months intensified against the background of competition in the Pacific region. The Chinese authorities claim that most of the international waters in the region belong to the PRC. We are talking about controversial waters in Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and others. The Chinese government takes measures to strengthen the control over the sea routes through which world trade takes place.
