He emphasizes that the automotive industry suffered because of the shortage of chips even more than from the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
Due to the lack of components, many automotive companies are forced to stop or reduce production. So, Stellantis, the fourth car manufacturer in the world, stops the work of several enterprises in Europe and the USA.
“Semiconductor hurricane causes more significant stops of production than locked in 2020,” Ferdinando Ulyano, head of the trade union. He added that such a situation will continue throughout the first half of 2022, and more and more facilities will be forced to stop, and the company will postpone the planned launch of new models.
Previously, Skoda announced that due to the lack of chips “will significantly reduce or stop” production at its factories in the Czech Republic. Changes in work will begin on October 18 and will last until the end of the year. The Volvo Swedish automaker said that sales in September compared to the same period last year fell by 30.2 percent.
Others presented the industry also encountered a reduction in sales. So, in August, Stellantis lost 29 percent, Volkswagen -14 percent, RENAULT – 23 percent. BMW and Daimler reported a decrease in sales by 18 and 38 percent, respectively.
