Poland highly appreciates accession to the European Union (EU) and would like to remain in its composition, but still puts its constitution above the EU laws. This was stated by the Prime Minister of the country of Mateush Muressky on her page in Facebook .
So the politician commented on the decision of the Polish Constitutional Court, which stated that the provisions of the Poland’s Constitution do not comply with the norms on the primacy of European law over Polish. Explaining such a court decision, Morrazetsky spoke about the family relations of the EU and Poland: according to him, for Warsaw there will always be a place “in the European family of peoples.”
“The introduction of Poland and the countries of Central Europe to the European Union is one of the most important events of the last decades. And for us, and for the EU itself. We all won … [But] we have the same rights as others states. We want these rights to be respected, “the premiere statement says.
Primates of European laws over the national is the key principle in the process of European integration. At the same time, Polish politicians have repeatedly insisted on changing such a situation, arguing that such a law threatens the welfare of the country. According to Polish judges, the Constitution of the Republic is above any other legal norms. It must underlie the activities of all state bodies of Poland, and the President of the country has the right to nominate candidates for the position of judge of the Supreme Court.
However, the European Union has repeatedly criticized Warsaw’s decisions, threatening with sanctions. So far, the EU has not yet determined the amount of penalties.
