100-year-old man named Josef S., who worked as a security guard in the Zabeshenhausen concentration camp under Berlin, appeared before the court in Germany. It is reported by Associated Press.
Nazis suspect that he voluntarily served in Zacchenhausen from 1942 to 1945. He is also accused of aiding in the murder of 3518 people.
Suspected lawyer stated that his client does not want to comment on charges.
It is noted that, despite the old age, the defendant is considered sufficiently healthy for the process.
From 1936 to 1945, hundreds of thousands of people were held in Zacnhausen, media note. Tens of thousands of prisoners died of hunger, diseases, forced labor, as well as as a result of medical experiments and systematic operations of the SS for destruction: executions, hanging and suffocation with gas.
