Japan refused to change its position regarding signing of a peace treaty

The Government of Japan refused to change its position regarding the signing of a peace treaty with Russia and continue to adhere to the concept, according to which such a document can be signed only after solving the issue of accessories smoked. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kisida, reports TASS.

“In the past, the basic position of the Government of Japan was that the peace treaty will be signed after clarifying the issue of the membership of the four islands. Changes are that we will continue negotiations on the basis of this basic course, no,” said politician after a telephone conversation With Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kisida confirmed that Tokyo will negotiate the conclusion of the world according to the agreements reached in 2018 in Singapore during the past of the premiere of Sinzo Abe. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of the comprehensive development of relations with Moscow.

Earlier on September 24, Japanese Foreign Minister Tosimitsa Motigi said that Tokyo rejects the proposal of Moscow on the creation of a special economic zone on the southern islands of the Kuril Ridge. The OEZ plan did not suit the Japanese to the fact that in the territory of the islands, Russian laws will still be applied. This, according to Tokyo, would infringe upon the legal position of Japan in working on joint economic projects.

Moscow and Tokyo cannot sign a peace treaty on the results of the Second World War due to the territorial dispute around the southern part of Kuril. Japan considers the Islands of ITUURUP, Kunashir, Shikotan and a group of Habmioma Islands with its “northern territories”. Moscow does not recognize the very fact of the territorial dispute.
