Russia called on UN countries to cooperate in disarmament

Russia called on the UN countries to equal cooperation in disarmament, the normalization of the disarmament mechanism of the UN and to the abandonment of confrontation. This is stated in a statement by the Director of the Department of Nonproliferation and Control of Arms of the Russian Foreign Ministry Vladimir Yermakova, RIA Novosti reports.

Ermakova’s statement was read at the meeting of the first committee of the UN. The text also states that Moscow notes “manifestation of common pragmatism” by the new US administration in the question of dialogue on strategic stability.

The Russian Federation is fully aware of its responsibility for maintaining global and regional stability and conducts a course to preserve the world. We offer specific political and diplomatic measures aimed at preserving and strengthening arms architecture, “Ermakov said.

Earlier in October, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, a high representative on disarmament issues by Izumi Nakakuza stated that the risks of the use of nuclear weapons were very high. According to her, together with the growth of hostility between countries, this may lead to serious consequences – including a nuclear war.
