“Northern Stream-2” continued a dispute with Europe

Nord Stream 2 operator Nord Stream 2 filed an appeal to the decision of the German Court to refuse to eliminate the gas pipeline from the Gas Directive of the European Union (EU), writes Reuters. Thus, the project managers continued to dispute with European countries.

At the end of August, the highest land court Düsseldorf ordered the North Stream-2 to comply with the norms of the updated EU Directive. In Nord Stream 2, in turn, insist that the date of the renewal of the Directive in May 2019, the pipeline was completed from an economic point of view, because by that time the company has invested in the project more than a billion euros.

According to the document, if the organization owns the pipeline, it has the right to fill it with its gas only by 50 percent – the second half must be reserved for an independent supplier. The directive is designed to prevent the monopoly of one company. In Russia, the right to export gas through pipes belongs only to Gazprom.

In early October, the Danish Energy Agency reported that the “Northern Stream-2” meets the requirements and may begin work. At about the same time, Nord Stream 2 announced that the first thread of the gas pipeline began to fill in gas as part of testing to achieve the required volume and pressure.
