The head of the largest in Russia of the Golden Company Polyus Pavel Grachev spoke about the risk of exhaustion of gold reserves in the country. In an interview with RBC, he warned that with a disadvantage of the company’s reserves, they may encounter after 10-20 years.
According to Grachev, the current reserves of gold in the country are about 7.5-8 thousand tons, and the production of metal is kept at the level of 330 tons per year. At the same time, the “pole” of resources is enough for another 37 years. Speaking about the depletion of the mineral resource base, he indicated that the reason became, including the lack of investment in exploration.
In early June, the Ministry of Environment warned that at the current level of gold mining in Russia for another 40 years. The head of the ministry, Alexander Kozlov, said that in Russia there are 13 percent of the global stocks of the precious metallol, the country ranks first in this indicator. At the same time, in terms of mining, Russia is inferior to China and Australia, despite the regular increase in its resource base.
In the last ten years, three large gold deposits in the Magadan and Irkutsk regions have been commissioned over the past ten years, as well as in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). In addition, production began in a number of medium and minor in the reserves of objects in the Khabarovsk Territory and the Magadan region.
