Scientists from Virginia University in the United States have discovered genes that are responsible for the weight gain. This is reported by the press service of the university with reference to the study published in the PLOS GENETICS magazine.
researchers found out that there are 293 genes that in one way or another affect the mass of human body. Of these, 14 contribute to the development of obesity, and three – prevent a weight set. Scientists believe that their discovery will speed up the development of methods for the treatment of obesity. It is noted that the study was carried out on the worms, 70 percent of whose genes coincide with people.
Previously, the international group of researchers found out that the main cause of obesity is not to overeat, but the consumption of food with a high glycemic index. Researchers from Harvard, Cornell and California University together with colleagues put forward a new explanation of obesity, based on a carbohydrate-insulin model, which, in their opinion, better explains the disease and its biological reasons. According to it, the main cause of obesity is excessive food intake with a high glycemic index, in particular, products with a high degree of processing, fast carbohydrates.
