The transfer of American submarines of Australia is a challenge for the non-proliferation mode of nuclear weapons. This was stated by the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov, speaking in the framework of the discussion on strategic stability and control over arms in the center of the Safety Policy of Geneva. His words lead RIA Novosti.
“We are concerned about the statements made at the beginning of the year by London on the prospects for expanding nuclear arsenals. As well as the recent statement of the United States, Great Britain and Australia on the development of a technologically developed partnership,” said Ryabkov, recalling that this agreement will allow Canberra to get nuclear submarines later some years. The diplomat is convinced that the transfer of submarines can provoke the threats of international security.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the appearance of the defense alliance led by the United States, the desire of the European Union to autonomy against the background of hasty withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan.
Some countries expressed fear due to the transfer of American submarines Canberre. Thus, the former Ambassador of China in the UN Sha Tzukan said that Beijing must prepare to apply nuclear weapons to fight back to new alliances who form the United States, including Aukus. He is convinced that it is time to “revise and adjust” a long-standing commitment not to apply nuclear strikes first, since the US military presence increases.
September 16, USA, Britain and Australia concluded an agreement on the defense partnership, the Alliance received the name Aukus (by country names).
