The European Union (EU) is going to pay Hungary and Poland promised to them to restore the economy after a pandemic. According to Bloomberg, Brussels is ready to provide countries billions of euros if those will follow certain rules.
The European Commission postponed the payment of 7.2 billion euros (8 billion dollars) for Hungary and 23.9 billion euros ($ 27.6 billion) for Poland. Countries have provided recovery plans that need funding, the EU is ready to approve the projects of Poland and Hungary in November if the states will be fulfilled by the ultimatum to comply with democratic standards.
The allocation of money under certain conditions has become a tool for the European Commission in 2021, when the EU collided with the resistance of Poland and Hungary governments. Both countries have been criticized for anti-democratic laws. Poland conducted a reform that undermined the independence of the judicial system. Russia’s ally in the international political arena adopted a number of laws infringement of the LGBT community rights. The EU seeks to force countries to abandon the bills and adhere to democratic standards.
The EU also threatened to leave no help in the amount of 126 million euros ($ 145.8 million) those regions of Poland who adopted declarations that contradict European policies of diversity. Five provinces ranked themselves with zones free from LGBT.
