Today, October 1, 2021, marks 102 years since the birth of Dmitry Ilyich Kozlov – the legendary constructor of rocket and space technology, associate S.P. Queen, head of the Central Specialized Design Bureau (TsSKB) and RCC “Progress” (part of Roscosmos State Corporation).
Dmitry Ilyich Kozlov was born on October 1, 1919 in the city of Tikhoretsk Krasnodar Territory. In 1937 he entered the Artillery Faculty of Leningrad Military-Mechanical Institute. In July 1941, Dmitry Ilyich Kozlov, the volunteer went to the front, participated in the defense of Leningrad, was wounded three times.
After graduating from the Great Patriotic War together with Sergey Pavlovich Queen D.I. Kozlov worked on the first projects of Soviet ballistic missiles. In the late 1950s, D.I. Kozlov together with V.Ya. Litvinov organized the production of intercontinental ballistic missiles in the Kuibyshev Plant – R-7.
July 23, 1959, for the design support of mass production, the R-7 missiles was organized department No. 25 of OKB-1, in a year transformed into a branch No. 3 of OKB-1. Head of the branch and its chief designer was appointed D.I. Kozlov. The first two stages of the Vostoka carrier rocket, which on April 12, 1961 brought a spacecraft with Yuri Gagarin into orbit, were made in Kuibyshev under the direction of D.I. Kozlova.
In 1964, as directed by S.P. Queen Serial production and work on the creation of automatic low-bit surveillance facilities was transferred to the branch No. 3 of the OKB-1 and the Kuibyshev Factory “Progress”. The present breakthrough in the space building was the creation of a new generation of Yantar-2K for detailed photomarple, the first launch of which took place in 1974. It is since that time one of the main activities of KB Kozlova D.I. It was the creation of spacecraft remote sensing of the Earth. Subsequently, on the basis of these developments, satellites of the new generation “Resource-F”, “Resource-DK1” and “Resource-P” were created.
In 1966, the KB team under the leadership of Dmitry Ilyich Kozlov was created a three-speed rocket carrier of the middle class “Union” to launch manned spacecraft and satellites for various purposes. This rocket and its modifications: “Soyuz-U”, “Soyuz-Fg” became the most reliable means of removal in the world. Under the leadership of Dmitry Ilyich, in the early 2000s, a deep phased modernization of the “Union” rocket was carried out. The new rocket received the name “Soyuz-2”. Currently, two modifications of the new Rocket “Soyuz-2” of the 1A and 1B stages are carried out most of the launches with Baikonur cosmodromes, Plesetsk, East.
