Socked Houses of Texas University in Austin (USA) found out that in Mars in the past there were giant floods due to crowded crater lakes, as a result of which the surface of the planet was formed, deep abdinals were formed and large propulsion volumes. The traces of catastrophic phenomena reported in the article published in the Nature magazine.
Crater lakes existed on Mars several billion years ago, when liquid water was present on the surface of the planet. When the water inside the crater became too much, the walls of the crater could not hold it, as a result of which a breakthrough took place. These phenomena contributed to the cutting of deep valleys of rivers and lasted only a few weeks.
Researchers reviewed the existing river valley catalog on Mars and the classification of them into two categories: valleys that have arisen on the edge of the crater, which indicates that they have formed during the spill of the lake, and the valleys formed in the other place of the landscape, which involves more gradual formation over time. Scientists compared the depth, length and volume of various types of valleys and found that river valleys formed by trollers in crater lakes are found on Mars everywhere, covering a quarter of the volume of valleys on the entire red planet. At the same time, they constitute only three percent of the total length of the valleys.
Researchers suggest that the breakthroughs cut the canyons so deeply that they could affect the formation of other nearby river valleys. The authors stated that their work proposes an alternative explanation of the unique topography of the Martian River Valleys, which is usually associated with the climate.
