Poland’s authorities cannot fulfill the requirements of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to provide comprehensive assistance to illegal migrants that are stuck on the border with Belorussia. This is stated in the joint statement of the Ministry of the Interior (Ministry of Internal Affairs) and the Government of Poland.
According to the department, the refusal is based on the fact that the supervisory measures are superimposed by refugees, although they may entail a violation of the territorial integrity of the neighboring state. The authorities explained that the Migrant Group is actually in Belarus, which did not sign the European Convention on Human Rights, which will mean a violation of the country’s sovereignty.
Poles also pointed out that the cross-country regions operates a state of emergency, which prevents the movement of persons according to these territories, and a number of other restrictions. However, noted in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Polish side is ready to ensure that lawyers of illegal owes can get to the territory of Belarus to provide legal support.
On September 30, the President of Poland Angey Duda signed a decree on the extension of the current state of emergency on the border with Belarus for 60 days.
Previously, the ECHR obliged Poland and Latvia to provide housing, products, clean water and medicines of all illegal migrants stuck on the border with Belorussia. It is noted that the complaints were called “Aamiri and others against Poland” and “Ahmed and others against Latvia”. The court satisfied the request of the plaintiffs and imposed security measures for the leadership of the republics, resolving to refugees everything necessary to maintain acceptable existence conditions.
