Ex-president of France Nicolas Sarkozy gives an appeal to the court after he was sentenced to one year in prison. This was announced by the lawyer Sarkozy Thierry Erzog, RIA Novosti reports.

“Sarkozy, with whom I just spoke on the phone, asked me to protest the sentence. And I will do it immediately,” the lawyer said. On September 30, the court of Paris sentenced Sarkozy to one year in prison for obtaining illegal financing of the election campaign in 2012.

By the court decision, the politician will be able to serve the punishment beyond the prison. He was allowed to sit under house arrest with an electronic bracelet. According to investigators, Sarkozy almost twice the permitted amount of funding for the campaign, although he knew about the existence of a threshold.
