Nicolas Sarkozy sentenced to one year in prison

Court of Paris sentenced the former President of France Nicolas Sarkozy to one year in prison in the case of illegal financing of the election campaign in 2012. It is reported by BFMTV.

Policy allowed serving punishment beyond prison. It will be under house arrest with an electronic bracelet.

In 2007, Sarkozy during a meeting with the heiress of the French company L’Oreal Lillian Betankur received from her 150 thousand euros in cash. He allegedly used this money to finance his election campaign. According to the laws of France, candidates are forbidden to take donations for the amount of more than 4.6 thousand euros.

In March, Sarkozy was sentenced to three years in prison, two of which conditionally, in the case of corruption and trade in influence.
