Mistakes of German soldiers in battle for Moscow

September 30, 1941 began a battle for Moscow. The beginning of the German offensive turned around the environment of the compounds of three Soviet fronts. It did not prevent the USSR to win a strategic victory. Head of the Branch of the Bogoroditsky Field of the Museum-Reserve “Khmelita” (Smolensk Region), the Fighter of the search detachment “Debt” Igor Mikhailov spoke in an interview with Lente.ru on major mistakes of German soldiers.

In early October, the first snow fell and rains began, which worsened the condition of the roads. German troops used the same routes for the supply of several groups, which led to the wear of the roadway and a decrease in the pace of the offensive. Mikhailov noted that the promotion of the 4th Field Army and the 4th Tank Group slowed down in a similar way.

According to him, the German warlords overestimated their capabilities against the background of a successful start of the offensive. After the Vyazemsky and Bryansk boilers, the Nazis scattered the main forces. Thus, the Commander of the Army Group “Center” Fedor Background struck on the Tver north of Kalinina (now Tver). Unsuccessful attempts of the offensive in this direction suspended October 23.

80 years ago, September 30, 1941, the Typhoon operation began. The troops of the 2nd tank group of General Heinz Guderian attacked the position of the Bryansky front, and on October 2, the Army Center “Center” struck the western and backup front troops. The battle for Moscow, in which over three million people participated, became the largest strategic battle of the Second World War.
