On Monday, September 27, 2021, at 21:11 Moscow time from the base of the space forces Vendenberg (California, USA), a launch of ATLAS V carrier rocket was held with the LandSat 9 remote sensing satellite.
Successful start of the Atlas V carrier rocket provided the liquid rocket engine of the RD-180 development and production of the Energomash Scientific and Production Association named after Academician V.P. Glushko (part of the state corporation “Roskosmos”) as part of the first stage.
ATLAS family rockets made 94 successful starts with RD-180 engines.
According to media information, the continuous study of the earth’s surface with orbit – the joint NASA project and the US geological service – continues from 1972, when Landsat was launched 1. The ninth satellite is called to replace Landsat 7, which was launched in April 1999. It will be brought to the same orbit with a height of about 705 km, which will make it easier to calibrate onboard devices. It is assumed that daily LandSat 9 will transmit over 700 images.
