President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko gave a month to the revision of the amendments to the Constitution. This was announced on September 28, the Chairman of the Council of the Republic of Natalia Kochanova, the Belarusian today, writes today.
“The President unequivocally said: We will still meet more than once. On the refinement of Dan Month,” Kochanova said.
According to her, they will send “only some controversial aspects.”
“And the main ones that were proposed today were proposed by the head of state – were supported by all members of our Constitutional Commission. The project will be finalized and put on a national discussion,” said Kochanov.
Earlier, Lukashenko announced that the preparation of the draft new constitution was completed. The referendum on the new edition of the Basic Law will be held no later than February 2022. According to the head of state, it is planned to redistribute the powers of the president, parliament and government.
Lukashenko declared the need to make changes to the Constitution against the background of mass protests that covered Belarus after the presidential elections held in August 2020. He assured that after the adoption of a new fundamental law, the country will leave his post, and promised not to keep power with “messenger hands.”
The Constitutional Commission began work in March 2021, in August she sent the final proposals for consideration by Lukashenko.
