US Ambassador commented on plans to use Russian Bases

US Ambassador in Kazakhstan William Moser commented on the plans to use Russian military bases in Central Asia to combat terrorism, reports TASS.

“While we do not have specific plans in this area,” said Moser at a briefing on September 28.

Previously, the Wall Street Journal newspaper, with reference to the sources, reported that the States were interested in the possible use of Russian military bases in Central Asia. According to the publication, it was discussed at a meeting in Finland on September 22, the head of the Joint Committee of the headquarters of the US headquarters Mark Milli and the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia Valery Gerasimov.

According to the newspaper, the US National Security Council considered some statements of Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the American counterpart Joe Biden, indicating that Moscow could consider this option. Milli had to clarify Gerasimov, whether it was true, but did not receive a specific answer.

In July, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated that the US attempts to place in Central Asia their own military bases will not lead “to anything good.”

In May, the United States wants to place troops in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in connection with the conclusion of a contingent from Afghanistan.
