Changes in the project of the Belarusian Constitution will affect the provisions on the powers of state authorities in order to harmonize the country’s political system. This was announced by the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko, summing up the preliminary results of the work of the Constitutional Commission, BelTA reports.
According to politics, it is planned to redistribute the powers of the president, parliament and government. In addition, the Belarusian leader noted, the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly (VNS) will receive a constitutional status. These positions added, it was added to the requirements of the Belarusian people to transform the state management system.
At the same time, he explained that in society there are different points of view regarding the introduction of changes in the main law, and some oppose this initiative, but it is important to take into account the experience of last year’s events. “This is not accepted. We promised to hold a referendum on the constitution. From us demanded a” change “and not only,” said Lukashenko.
Earlier, Lukashenko promised not to keep the power with “miserable hands” and repeatedly declared about the need to transmit part of the authority of the VNS. In particular, he said that in case of the accomplishment of the state coup in the republic, the government must go exactly to the meeting, therefore it is necessary to give the authority constitutional status.
Constitutional Commission began work in March 2021. In August, she sent refined proposals for the consideration of Lukashenko. The referendum on the new Constitution may take place at the beginning of 2022.
