In his first space flight, Alexander Sergeyevich Ivanchenkov went on June 15, 1978 as a flight engineer Soyuz-29, together with Vladimir Vasilyevich Kovanenk. For 140 days A.S. Ivanchenkov worked aboard the Salute-6 orbital station by setting a record for the duration of the space flight at that time.
During the expedition, the Soyuz-29, Soyuz-30, Soyuz-31, Progress-2, Progress-3, Progress-4 were docking during the expedition, Speaking the ship “Soyuz-31” with the orbital research complex “Salyut-6 – Union”.

Alexander Ivanchenkov made his second space flight from June 24 to July 2, 1982 together with Vladimir Janibekov and the first French cosmonaut Jean-Lou Corene as the Soyuz T-6 spacecraft flight.
Alexander Ivanchenkov worked on board the Salute-7 orbital station, along with the main crew – Anatoly Berezov and Valentin Lebedev. The duration of stay in space was 7 days 21 hours.
